With everything else going on this weekend, some may have forgotten that today commemorates the contributions of working Americans and the labor movement that represents them.This has obviously been a tough year for the labor movement, what with a sluggish economy, sky-rocketing health care and energy costs, never-ending pressure on jobs and wages from offshoring, continued corporate efforts to even further skew the balance of power between employers and employees–and of course, the split in the AFL-CIO.But interestingly enough, Americans seem to be appreciating the importance of unions, to themselves and to the country, as much as or more than ever.
